Writing Samples

What are you in the mood for?

Navigating samples should be a fun experience! I have categorized all of my samples into various segments. Below, I will highlight the details of each, to give you a clear idea of what you can expect based on your interests.

Creative Fiction Samples

This one is a bit self-explanatory. While the bulk of my writing is done in long-form such as novels or video essays, I still love to stretch my creative muscles with some shorter works. Whether you like love stories about intergalactic warrior princesses, or creation stories with gods, devils, and spirits, I have something for everyone. One fun detail? Everything in this section takes place in the same universe. The story “Best Friends” is set in the same universe, but is a non-canon what-if story.

Game Room Exclusives

I’ve had a lot of fun over the years, and my career has taken me to a lot of places! This section shows you some of the projects I’ve been able to work on. There are exclusive interviews with some independent developers, as well as a beautiful tale of an event I hosted. This section is for readers who value relationship building and want to hear from the sources of some amazing titles.

Game Reviews

I’ve been reviewing games since I was a teenager, and somewhere along the way, I actually got good at it. There’s a diverse lineup of titles in this section, old and new. From Mario to Asura’s Wrath to Earthbound, there’s something for everyone in this compilation of game critiques!

Designer Talk

Designer Talk was a segment I had on the blog that focused on specific design decisions that made games work. A lot of these ideas are difficult to narrow down. Things like Super Smash Bros and its emphasis on longevity or Aaru’s Awakening refining one really good mechanic. There’s a lot of hard science to game design, and this is an exploration of that idea. While reviews tend to be more critical, this is more of a breakdown based on my game design education.

Five Picks

Now you’ve reached the end and the real fun begins! Who doesn’t love a good list? Five Picks is a section where I do “Top 5” lists for genres of games. Action titles, RPGs, games with good music, summer fun, you name it! An older section, but who knows? Maybe we’ll see it again someday.

I hope you find something that suits your interests here, but in the meantime, I can’t wait to see you back for more from the GAME ROOM!!!
